IPN Group Philosophy and Ethical Statement

Philosophy

We are a group of therapists and healers who are passionate about the significance of our work for the well-being of our clients, and consequently, of human society.

At the heart of our practice is our commitment to an ethical way of being in our lives with others and an acknowledgement of our interdependency with the 'web of life'. This means taking responsibility for our own actions and being as true to ourselves as we can.

We see our own personal growth and professional development as an intrinsic part of our work, and a natural outgrowth of our authentic contact with others. Our approach includes a willingness to engage with our shadow side, our working edges, and our creativity and aliveness.

We consider the relationship between clients and ourselves as central to our work, and aim to support in our clients the unfolding awareness of their potential and their capacity to realise it in their own lives.

Ethical statement

1. We stand by each other’s practice through:-

a) A commitment to a thorough understanding of the way we work through discussion, case presentation, role plays, supervision of client work, etc.
b) Monitoring and discussing each other’s boundaries and personal process between ourselves and with clients.
c) Monitoring each other’s fitness to practise, and supporting, encouraging and challenging each other to the best of our ability, whilst acknowledging our diverse backgrounds.

2. We believe in the inherent equality of all people, and therefore, work creatively to redress the power imbalance that may exist between practitioner and client.

3. We avoid any form of exploitation of clients, whether that is sexual, emotional and/or financial.

4. We recognise the importance of confidentiality and take measures relevant to our practice.

5. We are all committed to regular, formal, supervision (this may not apply to healers.)
